What is a co-negative LED display?

 

 

 

"Common shade" refers to the common shade power supply mode. The common shade LED display adopts separate power supply of R, G and B, accurately distributing voltage and current to the red, green and blue lamp bead, and the current passes through the lamp bead and then to the IC negative electrode, so that the forward voltage is reduced and the internal resistance of conduction is small. Compared with the traditional display screen, there are two biggest differences. First, the power supply direction is different. The current of the common positive LED display screen flows from the PCB board to the lamp bead, and the RGB lamp bead is powered uniformly, which increases the positive voltage drop of the circuit. Common negative LED display current first through the lamp bead and then to the IC negative pole, the positive voltage is reduced, the conduction internal resistance is small. Secondly, the power supply voltage is not the same, the common positive LED display usually gives red, green and blue beads a voltage higher than 3.8V (such as 5V) unified power supply, large power loss; Common shade LED display according to the red, green, blue three chips actually need voltage (red bead voltage requirements about 2.5V, blue, green bead voltage requirements about 3.8V) separate precise power supply, less power loss, LED display work generated much lower heat. Through the comparison of the above co-shade and co-sun power supply modes, we know that the co-shade LED display consumes much less electricity than the co-sun LED display, and the heat is much lower.

Total Yin IC series is not complete, the overall volume is not large, total Yang still occupies 80% of the market. The main reason for the slow progress of co-cathode technology is the high production cost. Based on the original supply chain collaboration, co-cathode requires the customized cooperation of all ends of the industrial chain, such as chip, package and PCB, and the cost is high. Once mass production is achieved, production is standardized rather than customized, especially if there is a strong push up and back by the end manufacturer, the co-yin technology has the opportunity to move faster.

 

 

 

Patent issues are the biggest obstacle

 

 

 

According to the relevant survey, since 1999, LED display driver IC field related patents about 3997. The number of related patents in this field began to accumulate and increase significantly in 2002, and entered the stage of rapid growth from 2010 to 2016. In the field of co-cathode architecture, the main applicants currently include: American Silicon Core, Guangzhou Silicon Core Electronics, Hangzhou Vision Core, Fuzhou Fudahai Silicon Microelectronics. Among them, the United States silicon core and Guangzhou Silicon Core Electronics are the main patent applicants in this field. As early as 2011, they began to apply for patents in China and the United States. In 2013 and 2015, three Chinese patents including the main case CN102855841B were approved; In 2015, three US patents including the main case US8963810 were approved, mainly covering LED display system including LED array and LED driver circuit. At present, the most common and advantageous Array (array) architecture core patent has been mastered by an American silicon core, a display manufacturer that does not sell driver IC. The international community pays great attention to patents. If the common architecture is applied by others and is not made public, the big industry cannot use it. Not conducive to the overall development of the industry.

 

 

 

It is certain that in the future, the common Yin LED display will be an important chip in the competition of enterprises. Common shade energy-saving LED display with its superior low heat, low power, low loss, cost and other advantages to attract many manufacturers competition, common shade energy-saving technology is a trend, but can not be used as a gimmick for enterprise competition, so in order to achieve large-scale production, there are many problems: The innovation of common shade LED display technology cannot only rely on the independent completion of the terminal display manufacturers, but needs the full cooperation of the upstream and downstream manufacturers of the industrial chain. Secondly, in this process, it also needs to avoid the risk of patents.
